Business Information Developer (Level 1 Data Engineer)

Location: This position will work a hybrid model (remote and in office 1 - 2 days per week).  Ideal candidates will live or be willing to relocate to within 50 miles of our Pulse Point location in Richmond, VA.

The Business Information Developer (Level 1 Data Engineer) is responsible for assisting with the development and execution of data mining analyses to enhance reporting functionality and identify data relationships and patterns. This role uses cloud-based technology, extensive healthcare data, and individual/team ingenuity to improve the delivery of vital healthcare services. 

How you will make an impact:

  • Assists with data import building and data modeling to enhance the line-of-sight and measurement of operational processes.

  • Identifies new relationships and patterns within data.

  • Programs and writes queries and reports.

  • Determines data warehouse database design, data definitions, system capabilities, and data integrity issues.

  • Supports new development of standardized reporting using the data warehouse and ad hoc reports.

  • Establishes connectivity to operations source systems and data repositories.

  • Conducts data discovery work to understand strengths, limitations, and opportunities within the currently available data.

  • Builds an increasingly comprehensive understanding of database design, data definitions, system capabilities, and data integrity issues.

  • Works with a diverse set of business partners in Operations, IT, etc. to understand their business needs and craft data-oriented solutions.

  • Develops standardized reporting using the data warehouse, in addition to ad hoc reports.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Requires a BS/BA degree; up to 2 years’ experience; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.

Preferred Skills, Capabilities, and Experiences:

  • Experience presenting technical subject matters to non-technical audiences strongly preferred.

  • Experience in the maintenance of data processes and data quality strongly preferred.

  • Ability to learn new skills and subject matters (developing a network of knowledgeable contacts, assessing level of understanding and gaining new insights, documenting useful information for broader team’s use, etc.) strongly preferred.

  • Ability to toggle effectively between several concurrent projects preferred.

  • Proficient in presenting team’s work in various forums preferred.

  • Background in operations (pharmacy, contact center, manufacturing, print or digital communications, etc.) preferred.

  • Familiarity with Amazon RedShift, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, or equivalent database software preferred.

  • Familiarity with data import/ETL software (Microsoft SSIS, Informatica, Talend, or equivalent) preferred.

  • PC, spreadsheet, and database skills preferred. 

  • Standard Business Information tools and programming/query languages preferred.
