JR14411 Psychologist Reviewer

Responsible for collaborating with providers and Medical Directors to determine the appropriateness of the level of care based on Medical Necessity Criteria. The primary focus is on Psychological Testing, Neuropsychological Testing, but other levels of outpatient care may be reviewed including Individual Therapy, Group Therapy, Family Therapy, Marriage/Couples Therapy, Psychosocial Rehabilitation, Intensive Outpatient Treatment, Day Treatment, and Mental Health Support Services.

How will you make an impact:

  • Partners with internal UR staff and external Behavioral Health Providers to ensure appropriate and consistent utilization of plan benefits and application of clinical guidelines, within the scope of the license.
  • Conducts pre-certification, concurrent review, and appeals of Behavioral Health OP services, with a specific focus on psychological and neuropsychological testing services.
  • Collaborates with health plan, network, and other Behavioral Health team partners to related to psychological and neuropsychological testing services.
  • Mentors Behavioral Health staff related to testing services by assisting in training, attending utilization management rounds, and serving on interdepartmental initiatives; assisted in further developing programs around psychological and neuropsychological testing.

Minimum requirements:

  • Requires Ph.D. or Psy.D in clinical/counseling psychology and managed care experience which includes experience with the administration and interpretation of psychological test batteries; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.

Preferred Skills, Capabilities, and Experiences:

  • Must possess an active unrestricted license to practice as a Clinical/Counseling Psychologist.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in a Behavioral Health/Clinical setting is preferred.
  • Experience administering and interpreting psychological and/or neuropsychological test batteries.
  • Experience with utilization review of psychological and/or neuropsychological test batteries preferred.
