Manager Leave of Absence

The LOA Manager oversees the day-to-day operations of  LOA  programs (short-term and long-term disability), as well as the administration of all company leaves in accordance with applicable federal and state regulations. Provides excellent customer service, and establishes and maintains professional internal and external relationships at all levels.

Leave Administration
Maintains partnership with  LOA Vendor. With team  manages, and tracks all leaves of absence, including Worker’s Compensation claims, providing timely notification/response according to applicable state and federal laws and regulations and company policy. Ensures timely response to state agencies or third-party vendors regarding SDI, PFL or LTD claims coordination.

  • Responds to Escalated employee inquiries regarding Leave of Absence. Meets as necessary with team to discuss and educate them about their individual leave scenarios and trends.

  • Partner with HR Operations staff in regard to leave, benefits, payroll and other functions of operation

  • Work in alignment with payroll team to ensure leave time is paid in accordance with the associate’s leave status

  • Maintain and update policies in partnership with the leave COE

  • Participate in appeal reviews and escalations from LOA vendor

  • Communicate and update policies to enterprise with annual updates

  • Communicate consistently with Elevance Health managers and associates regarding their leave of absence

  • Participate in bi-annual and annual review with LOA vendor to track trends of leave participation and communicate and strategize with the business on outcomes

  • Provide recommendations based on feedback received from LOA vendor

  • Conduct training to different Elevance Health audiences based on the needs of the audience

  • Manage case managers in the worker’s compensation space which includes monitoring claims, vendor communication and providing guidance to Elevance Health associates and managers regarding their claim

  • Partner with worker’s compensation vendor and internal partners to ensure processes are in place and being followed on claims

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent employee benefits administration  or Leave of Absence experience required.

• Eight (8) years’ experience in Benefits and Leave Administration required.

• Demonstrated knowledge of Federal and State regulations, filing and compliance requirements, both adopted and pending, affecting employee benefit programs, including but not limited to: ERISA, COBRA/Cal-COBRA, FMLA, CFRA, ADA, Section 125, Medicare, Social Security and DOL requirements.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills aiding in effective communication and working relationships with all levels of the organization.

• Ability to handle confidential employee matters while maintaining confidentiality and tact.

• Computer literacy and proficiency with, Oracle Fusion HCM, MS Office; including MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Certification/Licensure: PHR or SPHR Certification preferred. CEBS preferred.
