A Quality Management Intern will be responsible for assisting and ensuring oversight for the Nebraska Healthy Blue efforts to improve the health and well-being of the Health Plan's membership by establishing, informing, monitoring, and accomplishing the health plan's integrated health strategy under the direction of the Quality Director.

  • Employing and implementing core concepts of health improvement such as social determinants of health, health services research, epidemiology, and statistics to guide the health plans strategic vision

  • Promoting effective  communication  and coordination of care.

  • Promoting effective prevention and treatment of  chronic disease .

  • Working with communities to promote best practices of healthy living

  • Collecting data and analyze patient outcomes

Intern will be placed with the Quality improvement team and assigned a project that is tied directly to our strategic and tactical goals and assist with special ad-hoc projects, presentations and reports as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Ability to work 40 hours per week, 5 days per week during the duration of the summer internship program

  • Actively pursuing a master’s in public health, Life Sciences, Behavioral Sciences, Business, Economics, Social Work, health services, health policy, epidemiology, psychology, or another relevant field from an accredited college/university completion of the first year of master’s program before internship starts

  • Students must be authorized to work in the U.S. without future visa sponsorship requirements

Preferred Skills, Capabilities and Experiences:

  • Experience in change and transformation efforts that support health disparities in public health

  • Technical and leadership skills:

    • Demonstrate strong interpersonal communication, writing and presentation skills.

    • Experience using Microsoft Suites, Outlook, and Teams.

    • Experience collecting and analyzing quantitative and/or qualitative data.

    • Demonstrate sensitivity to cultural needs and practice cultural humility and cultural competence.

    • Experience working with marginalized communities.
