The Region for this position is Central Tennessee.
The Peer Support Specialist is responsible for engaging with community partners and builds strategy with local stakeholders; providing education, strengthening relationships, and helping resolve case or broader systems issues. Supports care coordination teams and connect members and caregivers with those who can provide insight and expertise to assist in overcoming challenges.
Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Develop content, agendas, marketing, and facilitate Members Only Meetings.
- Assist Member Advocates with developing and marketing the Community Forums and Advisory Board Meetings.
- Provide Community Outreach at transition fairs, conferences, and other community events.
- Develop connections with advocacy groups, including People First and STLG.
- Assist with Disability Mentoring Day activities and National Disability Employment Awareness Month.
- Conduct welcome calls to new Employment Community First (ECF) CHOICES members.
- Review member documents, like the ECF member handbook, to provide a peer perspective.
- Collect and document success stories in ECF.
- Provide Peer Mentoring to Transition 21 members and newly employed members.
- Assist with marketing the Peer Support Service and Peer Support Academy project.
- Provide peer support to the DSP Academy in TN.
Must possess the ability to communicate effectively with consumers, families, and providers. Good organization and communication skills.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:
Computer literacy is desirable. Self Advocacy experience for those with disabilities is strongly preferred. Other: Peer Mentor candidate must be 18 years of age or older.
