Medicaid Clinical Quality Internship - Graduate

The Medicaid Clinical Quality Intern will be responsible for Supporting clinical investigation, auditing, analyzing performance reports (e.g., for claims data, provider data, member, utilization data) and providing notations of performance deviations and anomalies.  Additionally, intern scope of work will include researching evidence-based member or provider facing initiatives, collecting medical record charts from providers, hospitals, or specialty groups on the behalf of the Medicaid Quality Management (MQM) Team.

How you will make an impact:

  • Working with the quality team to review data and studies to identify barriers to member and provider interventions

  • Developing and analyzing performance reports (e.g., for claims data, provider data, member, utilization data) and providing notations of performance deviations and anomalies

  • Making necessary recommendations, and develops ad hoc reports as needed

  • Researching evidence-based member or provide facing initiatives

  • Reviewing clinical data elements, identifies findings supported by documentation guidelines

  • Faxing and collection charts from providers, hospitals, or specialty groups

  • Maintaining effective documentation of research programs

  • Analyzing data and summarizing performance using summary statistical procedures

  • Supporting clinical investigation, auditing, and assisting in documentation and chart retrievals 

  • Conducting accurate and complete quantitative analysis of clinical data and presentation of results

  • Scheduling, conducting, and attending meetings, supporting management in overall objectives, assessing costs and savings

  • Supporting meetings, quality action plans, and serves as plan representative for collaborative opportunities

  • Oversees quality improvement activities for the largest, most complex state programs

  • Participates in and provides input to the development of initiatives or activities

  • Providing support to assure accurate and complete quantitative analysis of clinical data and presentation of data analysis results

Minimum Requirements:

  • Actively pursuing a master’s in health administration, health education, public health, nursing, or a related clinical field; health care quality or data analysis experience; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background at an accredited college/university

  • Ability to work 40 hours weekly during the summer internship program

  • Students must be authorized to work in the U.S. without future visa sponsorship requirements

Preferred Skills, Capabilities and Experiences:

  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment and a quick learner as Training and Licensing will be provided.

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

  • Excellent Communication skills, both written and oral.

  • Excellent Problem-solving, Analytical, and Organizational skills

  • Excellent Public Speaking and Presentation skills
