Quality Improvement Specialist Internship - Summer 2023

The Quality Improvement Specialist Intern will be responsible for capturing and analyzing data from all health promotions activities, attending member facing events, and interfacing with community stakeholders. Additionally, the Intern may support other internal departments as needed and assist with Health Equity data capture, analysis, and reporting.

How you will make an impact:

  • Providing support to the Quality Management Department

  • Participating in teams working on projects related to monitoring health outcomes for health plan memberships

  • Independent analysis of data aggregated and displayed in simple tables/graphs

  • Developing PowerPoint slides for discussion of information in interdepartmental workgroup settings

  • Preparing information for submission to the North Carolina Department of Health Benefits to meet compliance with regularity reporting requirements

Functions OR examples of projects for this role: 

  • Developing reporting formats from data extracts to monitor effectiveness of member outreach efforts

  • Conducting an analysis of member gift card payouts linked to care gap closure to determine impact of program

  • Examining and evaluating initiative/program outcome results to determine impact

  • Tracking trends and reports audit results to management

  • Running and monitoring monthly reports from database to identify and/or correct any incorrect data

  • Identifying, recommending, and implementing standardized approaches to performing and scoring quality audits

Minimum Requirements:

  • Actively pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Health Policy, Health Care Administration, or related degrees at an accredited college/university

  • Ability to work a minimum of 40 hours per week, 8 hours per day from June to August

  • Students must be authorized to work in the U.S. without future visa sponsorship requirements

Preferred Skills, Capabilities and Experiences:

  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment and a quick learner as Training and Licensing will be provided.

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

  • Excellent Communication skills, both written and oral.

  • Excellent Problem-solving, Analytical, and Organizational skills

  • Excellent Public Speaking and Presentation skills
