Business Intelligence Internship - Summer 2023, Remote

A Business Intelligence Intern  will be responsible for analytical studies including but not limited to statistical modeling, competitive intelligence, and market research. Interns will work in a cohort structure, alongside analytical leaders, to support and drive projects alongside data-informed insights used to support strategic business decisions. This internship will highlight how data, analysis, and visualizations are used to drive business decisions and strategy.

Within this 100% remote cohort internship, interns will be assigned to a specific and unique program based on their college major, experience, and interests. The programs and a brief description are listed below.

Advanced Analytics: These interns will have the opportunity to engage with tenured data scientists and will gain experience through their involvement with business-related data science projects.

  • How you will make an impact

    • Performing critical data analysis to gain insights into behavior drivers and preferences

    • Evaluating data and contributing to value propositions and discussions of operational effectiveness and efficiencies based on analysis results

    • Utilizing coding and analysis to support the development of visualizations. Experience in coding with Python, R, or SAS is preferred.

Data Development and Dashboard Reporting: Interns will be heavily engaged in the identification, capturing, and reporting of key performance metrics.

  • How you will make an impact

    • Performing in-depth data analysis of a variety of key performance metrics

    • Sharing data insights, enabling the business to measure, monitor, and manage products and solutions

    • Learning how to leverage business visualization tools like Tableau and PowerBi to develop product performance dashboards.

Competitive Intelligence and Analytics: Interns will be involved in data collection, analysis, and generating insights based on the outcomes of the pricing data.

  • How you will make an impact:

    • Working on complex issues where analyses of situations and/or data require an in-depth evaluation

    • Engaging with learning as to how health insurance rates are developed

    • Reviewing actuarial memos to calculate the rates of insurance carriers participating in next year’s Health Insurance Exchanges.

Alongside project assignments, interns will engage with the Enterprise Summer Internship Program and the Business Intelligence Mentor Program. These programs will provide a rich, robust, and rewarding experience by encompassing Elevance Health’s mission and our pillars of success.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, BIS (Business Information Systems), CMDA (Computation Modeling and Data Analytics), Statistics, Business, Economics, Actuarial Science, Finance, Business Analytics, Management Decision Support, or related field at an accredited college or university

  • 3.0 GPA or higher

  • Ability to work for the duration of the internship (May-August 2023) on a full-time, 40 hours per week model

Preferred Skills, Capabilities and Experiences:

  • Advanced experience using Microsoft Office, with strong knowledge of Excel

  • The Internship will run on a 100% remote model but based in the Eastern time-zone. Applicants within the Eastern time-zone are preferred, but all candidates are welcome to apply.

  • Strong math skills, passion for data analytics, and business professionalism are strongly preferred

  • Excellent Problem-solving, Analytical, and Organizational skills are strongly preferred

  • Excellent Communication and Public Speaking skills are preferred

  • A detail-oriented and accuracy mindset and ability to work in a fast-paced environment is strongly preferred
