The Database Administration Advisor achieved mastery of all Database Administration best practices, standards, policies, methods tools and procedures.  Focus is on the proficient delivery of SAP Sybase Database Administration services while leading the SAP Sybase Database Administration team's use of tools, techniques and processes. Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Works with Senior Business and IT partners to identify, prioritize and lead the development and implementation of SAP Sybase Database Administration standards, policies, methods, and procedures building consensus with all parties. 

  • Leads highly complex SAP Sybase Database Administration projects and efforts.

  • Configuration, monitoring and maintenance of the SAP Sybase databases in production and non-production environments as well as the backups of the same.

  • Builds and supports required SAP Sybase database test environments.

  • Accurately estimates SAP Sybase Database Administration effort for any size project covering the projects database needs. Identifies and defines standard procedures and processes, ensuring compatibility with vision and direction.

  • Works with Business and IT partners to identify, translate, and prioritize the most complex SAP Sybase database architectural requirements.

  • Instrumental in providing guidance to subordinates in best architectural practices in maximizing the SAP Sybase database performance.

  • Troubleshoots the most difficult SAP Sybase database problems, recognized expert and go-to person.

  • Working with the UNIX/LINUX/DBD/Application administration teams to provide day-to-day, and on-call support for AIM's SAP Sybase databases.

  • Creating documentation of activities, system changes, procedures, policies and standards for the SAP Sybase databases architecture.

Minimum Requirements

  • Requires BS/BA in Computer Science or Information Technology or a related field of study.

  • Minimum of 7 years industry experience in Information Systems and/or experience in Database Administration or related disciplines; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background. 

Preferred Skills, Capabilities and Experience

  • 6 - 10 years of SAP Sybase DBA experience in a medium to large database server footprint.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of SAP Sybase performance & tuning, security, and diagnostic tools.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of SAP Sybase administration tools like DBArtisan, Bradmark, RapidSQL, ASEMON, DPA (SolarWinds), DBA Cockpit for SAP Sybase ASE.

  • Experience creating, maintaining, and deploying SAP Sybase servers.

  • Experience with Security standards and technologies for SAP Sybase.

  • Experience working in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving environment while interfacing with multiple internal clients.

  • Strong experience with SAP ASE 16.0 and SAP Replication (SRS) MSA and WS systems.

  • Experience with SAP ASE Always-On HADR solution/implementation on LINUX.

  • Strong communication and documentation skills.

  • Team work and knowledge driven.

  • Strong SAP Sybase environment architecture skills.

  • Strong troubleshooting skills.

  • Strong configuration management and automation skills.

  • Strong scripting experience with any of the follow ksh/python/perl.

  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP and related protocols (HTTP, FTP, NFS, etc.).

  • Working knowledge with Sybase on LINUX, AIX, and IBM Power7/Power8 systems.

  • Working knowledge of RHEL.

  • Experience with Amazon Web Services, Azure, GCP will be a plus.
