Staff VP, Product Portfolio & Governance (CarelonRx)
Location: For this role we prefer candidates located close to an Elevance Health /CarelonRx office, but we are willing to consider candidates outside of this preference within the continental United States.
Reporting to the VP, Product Strategy, this role provides leadership for Product Operations, Strategic planning, and Project Management Office. The Governance leader is responsible for the best practices of the Product Lifecycle Management phase gates servicing as a Center of Excellence, leadership of the Product Intake and Steering Committee that determines the prioritization and business decisions for the annual product/solutions roadmap, oversight of the planning, budgeting and management of the strategic product portfolio process, as well as leadership of our strategic product portfolios and alignment to business and product goals across all CarelonRx lines of business. The range of solutions initiatives will include PBM traditional and Specialty Pharmacy, Clinical Products and Services and Network Solutions and new business lines – in addition to integrated solutions for Medical/Rx and other health services offerings such as Behavioral Health.
This role engages significantly with matrixed resources (Clinical, Operations, Pricing, Product, IT, Business Development etc.) that collaborate to develop, produce, pilot, implement, and service new products. In this capacity, the leader will create both standalone pharmacy and integrated pharmacy/medical solutions that bring value across the total addressable market: clients/prospects within Anthem Commercial Business Segment as well as carve out payor agnostic strategic solutions designed to meet current and emerging market needs and drive significant profitable growth and retention of our market base.
Primary interfaces include Integrated Segment resources such as the CarelonRx PBM leadership, Sales and account teams, Commercial Plan market segment leaders, Commercial Product, Pharmacy Clinical Account Services, Marketing, Pricing team, Underwriting, Product and Medical Account Services, and Pharmacy Operations, Analytics, IT, Legal and Compliance.
Establish a Product Project Management Office to focus on key Blue Chip priorities, expanding capacity beyond enterprise portfolio funded initiatives.
Establish and Lead a Steering Committee and Governance approach for all product portfolio initiatives, liaising with the overarching CarelonRx portfolio team, creating visibility into issues, risks, decisions and other needs to ensure on time and on budget execution excellence.
Partner and create a collaborative process with the Commercial Product team and Carelon Services team, aligning governance and PLM processes with Anthem Medical/Commercial Segments Business Division PLM processes to ensure successful delivery with the Markets.
Ensure visibility and resolution of Product operations issue management needs during all phases of PLM for product development and operationalization and client implementations, collaborating to establish the operating model and continuous improvement plans.
Develop strong collaborative relationships with all key stakeholders critical to the successful launch of differentiating products and services across Pharmacy Sales/Account Directors, and all CarelonRx cross functional partners/resources that support the PBM business
Ensure all products and solution launches have clear business cases and mechanisms to ensure success metrics
Drive Talent Development and cultural expectations to recruit, inspire and retain high performing staff, deepening the talent bench and leading succession planning.
Develop consultative and business acumen skills for the product management organization related to the PLM Process and intersection with other Process owners across key cross matrix partners.
Qualifications - External
Requires a BA/BS and minimum 10+ years of experience in general business management, P&L ownership, governance/PMO, and strategic planning or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.
Experience with healthcare and pharmacy benefit management a plus.
Experience leading cross functional initiatives and executing within a large matrixed organization, building relationships at multiple levels to achieve objectives, and aligned value.
Minimum 10 years’ experience leading high performing teams in a product/solution or general business management growth function.
Strong organizational skills and disciplined practice towards accountable ownership and solutions excellence.
Successful experience developing and executing short and long-term strategic growth plans.
Excellent executive level communication skills, both verbal and written.
Successful experience presenting to C-suite leadership.
Background and demonstrated understanding in E2E Health Care Operations and business acumen preferred.
