Actuarial Analyst III

Location: This position could primarily be remote, but proximity to an Elevance Health major office (pulse point) is a plus.  Elevance Health supports a hybrid workplace model with pulse point sites used for collaboration, community, and connection.

The Enterprise Modeling and Trend Support team's mission is to model the potential impacts of external forces that change healthcare claim experience, to support Investor Relations and CFOs with relevant trend guidance, and to synthesize and share the Healthcare Financial Analytics (HFA) department insights on emerging claim trends and future expectations.

The Actuarial Analyst III completes very diverse and complicated projects and performs very complex actuarial studies. This position will support development of the new HFA Trend Synergy Package, reviewing analyses and healthcare insights from across the department to synthesize into a timely, cohesive cost of care and trend communication for our business partners. 

This role will actively seek input and embrace diverse perspectives to listen and learn from other HFA leaders and business partners, in order to better understand claims experience and help the company achieve financial goals. The Trend Synergy Package will connect insights and share enterprise analytical results and strategic insights for costs of care initiative program savings, healthcare cost trend drivers, risk adjustment, and clinical operational metrics.

How You Will Make an Impact:

Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Support ad hoc enterprise modeling to calculate projected impacts to financial paid claims for significant external risk factors or changes. Examples include COVID-19 healthcare cost projections, potential financial impacts of economic recession, new diseases and healthcare treatments, and other hypothetical or potential impacts to healthcare claims.
  • Analyzes health care claims experience, cost of care savings, and trend; prepares management reports supporting enterprise communications related to cost of care and trend performance
  • Assists in training of actuarial trainees, analysts and specialists.
  • Coordinates/directs special actuarial projects.

Minimum Requirements:

Requires a BA/BS and to have passed a minimum of four Society of Actuaries (SOA) actuarial exams and a minimum of 3 years related experience; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.

For candidates working in person or remotely in the below locations, the salary* range for this specific position is $84,800 to $152,640
