Business Strategy Plan Director - Care Delivery and Provider Enablement

Location: This role requires associates to be in-office 3 days per week, fostering collaboration and connectivity, while providing flexibility to support productivity and work-life balance. This approach combines structured office engagement with the autonomy of virtual work, promoting a dynamic and adaptable workplace. Alternate locations may be considered. Travels to worksite and other locations as necessary.

The Business Strategy Plan Director for the Care Delivery and Provider Enablement area will be responsible for comprehensive business unit strategic planning and insight work, which encompasses developing strategies to build upon and expand Carelon’s clinical care delivery services and provider-related businesses, including but not limited to exploration of medical groups, physician practice management platforms, managed services organizations, network management, provider enablement, care extenders, ambulatory facility platforms, provider support services, and more. This role involves end-to-end strategy development, from initial inception, research, and analytics to gather critical information for building a robust case. The Director will then work to present each chosen strategy to senior leadership and other key stakeholders to secure support and approval from all parties, followed by the execution and implementation of the strategy, which will include both organic and internally grown approaches as well as inorganic including integration planning and execution. The ideal candidate will have proven strategic experience with a background in consulting, corporate/enterprise strategy, and/or corporate development, along with substantial healthcare provider experience. From time to time the Director will lead or support other growth strategies across Carelon’s Services segment, so exposure to benefits management and other broader healthcare services businesses will also be relevant.

  • Understands all aspects of the business and partners with executive leadership to define strategy and successful criteria for the future.

  • Recommends specific ideas and approaches based on own experience with healthcare services strategy, operations, and implementation

  • Translates strategy into defined tactics, programs/projects priorities, and timelines and ensures enterprise alignment of and attainment of strategic plans to turn strategy into reality.

  • Documents strategic priorities such as external environment and reports on market insight research initiatives.

  • Builds and leverages relationships to provide innovative solutions to complex business problems.

  • Proposes opportunities to improve results based on continuous needs assessment.

  • Partners with existing Care Delivery and Provider Enablement area businesses on new and existing strategies to grow and evolve, and owns overall line of business planning.

Minimum Requirements:

BA/BS degree in a related field and a minimum of 10 years of related experience including prior leadership experience and 3 to 5 year strategic planning; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.

Preferred Skills, Capabilities, and Experience:

  • Master’s degree preferred.

  • Background in consulting, corporate/enterprise strategy, and/or corporate development strongly preferred.

  • Experience working in managed care and value-based care within healthcare services, especially with a focus on healthcare provider experience, is preferred.

  • Exceptional strategic thinking, decision-making, problem-solving skills, and adaptability highly preferred.

  • Self-motivation, and comfort both with autonomy and with teamworking across a complex matrixed model strongly preferred.

  • Experience interacting confidently with senior management and executive level stakeholders, as a subject matter expert and comfortable with influencing decision-making preferred.

  • Experience and knowledge of data analytics, project management, project execution, process improvement and change management experience (strategic and execution) strongly preferred.

  • Excellent written, oral, presentation and interpersonal communication skills with the proven ability to negotiate expectations between multiple parties strongly preferred. 

  • Proficient of Microsoft Office products Excel, Teams, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word and Power BI strongly preferred.

For candidates working in person or virtually in the below location(s), the salary* range for this specific position is $139,944 to $239,904
