Financial Consultant

Location: This position will work a hybrid model (remote and office). The Ideal candidate will live within 50 miles of one of our Elevance Health PulsePoint locations.

The Financial Consultant will be responsible for reviewing and preparing interpretation of historical financial data, financial projections, and results. Performs consulting services to support business development studies, economic evaluation, and planning functions. This position will support the diverse and complex National Accounts business unit as well as Enterprise Cost Guidance. Enterprise cost guidance will support optional buy-up programs and services, as well as customized Employee Assistance Program (EAP) pricing. The National Accounts business unit is a diverse and complex segment, including Home vs. Host business, private exchange business, and customized product offerings and pricing arrangements.

How you will make an impact:

  • Identifies complex financial problems or issues, researches solutions, and implements corrective steps to achieve higher level of efficiency.
  • Advises management of various financial models and recommendations.
  • Prepares complex presentations.
  • Prepares financial planning, financial section of annual and quarterly reports to shareholders, applicable government reports, and budget reports that are used as a resource by staff or outside departments.
  • Trains and reviews the work of lower-level Financial Analysts.
  • National Accounts responsibilities:
    • Fully insured monthly analysis and outlook, as well as annual forecast and plan.
    • Stop-loss revenue accruals, monthly analysis, and outlook.
    • Selling expense monthly analysis and outlook, development of monthly accruals, and annual forecast and plan.
    • Host and stop-loss membership, which is a manual process.
    • Host provider receivable analysis.
  • Cost Guidance responsibilities:
    • Supports all enterprise buy up programs that are critical to profitability across Individual, Small Group, LGFI, LG ASO, and National. There are >300 items in cost guidance that are used directly by underwriters and the ABACUS rating system. Cost guidance covers a significant portion of ASO fees as well as components of FI premiums. Cost guidance is used for profitability analysis within UW, Sales, the business units, Finance, and Clinical Management.
    • With a strategic shift to Carelon revenue, this role will provide critical support for Carelon services’ cost guidance.
    • Supports the strategic transition from ASO fees to more claims related charges and how those flow through revenue and cost center line items.
    • Supports the complex spectrum of cost guidance spanning internal Anthem/Carelon programs, independent vendor programs, and Anthem as reseller of external vendor programs.
    • Requires a high level of interaction, communication, and collaboration with product owners, underwriters, sales, finance, and other business unit teams.
    • Supports customized EAP ratings.

Minimum Requirements:

Requires a BA/BS in accounting or finance and a minimum of 3 years’ experience in general accounting, finance, or budget and planning; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.

Preferred Skills, Capabilities, and Experiences:

  • MBA, CPA, or CMA preferred.
  • Experience with Essbase strongly preferred.
  • Healthcare industry experience strongly preferred.
